Multi-Pocket Button Up Shirt
This shirt, made from a lightweight oxford cloth, is meant to resemble a product with a factory malfunction.
The explicit inspiration for this shirt was an image of a piece of sheet metal that had been stamped over and over again by a stamping machine. I thought about how breast pockets on a shirt are akin to stamps, and replicated the factory-defective look using them.
The shirt also conveys a sort of sarcasm, as breast pockets are usually purely cosmetic and aren’t used for anything practical. To put this many of them on a single shirt, and in a manner that renders most of them useless is a way of drawing attention to this lack of real usefulness.
